Bald Heads and Missed Opportunities

In ancient Athens there were hundreds of statues peppering the city. They represented deities and values important to the Greeks.

One was specifically referred to by the apostle Paul; it was a "let's-cover-all-of-our-religious-bases" statue.

Dr. Luke tells us Paul said to the Athenians, “For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’

(Acts 17:23a, NASB).

There was another statue in the city called the "Statue of Opportunity." It was portrayed as a human being with a normal body. The head, however, was quite unusual. It had long flowing hair in the front - but was completely bald in the back.

It was a constant reminder to every Athenian that opportunity was something you could grab as it was coming toward you, but once it passed you by, there was nothing to lay hold of.

Interesting…

If we lose control of our time, we lose opportunities.

If we can steward our time well, however, we can be ready for opportunities when they arise. Flowing locks or a chrome dome? The choice is often ours.
